Vienna marked the first, of what I hope will be many, gatherings of friends met on The Yacht Week. Georg and Robert, from Vienna, were nice enough to host Lana and Julia (from Germany) and myself for the weekend! Just one more reason that everyone should go on The Yacht Week!
Two of the three nights that we were there, we went for dinner in this outdoor square. This was actually very cool as in the center of the square they had a huge screen that was showing either a ballet or an opera depending on which night, in addition to outdoor food shops! This place felt like the classiest food court that I've ever been to - I felt extremely cultured after being there!
I've done a lot of traveling at this point, and I really do prefer to be shown around the sights by locals - particularly as in many of the places I've gone I don't have any of the background on what the things in most of my photos are! That said, it is also nice to feel VIP being escorted by car around to all the tourist destinations - SO much better than trying to learn yet another bus/train system (which so far for me has had an iffy track record). Going around with people from the city also allows you to see things that you may have otherwise missed - for example, the swimming pool in the hills that had gorgeous views of the entire city!
I loved Vienna and hope to make it back at some point! I even started learning a little bit of German - although only a very little bit, just the essentials, if you will (i.e. Ein Weißwein bitte!)
Now, as promised - a shout out to Georg for being the best tour guide ever, so if you're ever in Vienna - let me know and I'll put you all in touch!
